THE CONCLUSION

This year has gone by so fast and I didn't occur to me till now that this is actually the last blog that i will probably ever write for English. I have learned a lot from writing these. Such as theme and even about myself as well. To me, I think writing these blogs was good for me and learning concepts as well. Reading back on these was very interesting because i sound so sophisticated and it made me think that I really understood a lot of things that i was taught. Some of the blogs were really helpful such as when we were able to ask questions about excerpts that we weren't able to understand in Great Expectations and when we were able to write blogs to your Great Expectations essay partners. I also noticed that most of the topics that Mrs. Gilman told us to write about including the concept of theme. That has been a big topic in our class this year and has been something that we will take with us through the rest of your english year. One of them in particular is the Animal Farm project. I think it taught us to try to convey a theme through video or props.Another blog in particular is when we posted a picture about a theme of Great Expectations and the importance of it to the theme. To me theme is a misunderstood concept and that a dictionary definition is not adequate enough for anyone to really understand it. To me it is associated to the actual truth of the book. There were also some blogs that we got to write about our own book that we read for our outside reading project such as the one at the beginning of the year. We also focused a lot on poetry and learned many terms and learned to mainly interpret the poems meaning. In between all these blogs that were related to topics taught in school, we wrote about our life experience. These blogs were my favorite. Especially when i got to write about a life lessons and my best friend. i think the significance of these blogs about our personal life is for Mrs. Gilman to get to know us and to see how much we knew about ourselves as well.

When Mrs. Gilman tells you to comment, of course you go and find a blog to read and comment, but when you read someone elses you actually feel like theirs is better than yours. It also occurs to you that no one's is the same and that everyone ACTUALLY has their own ideas instead of getting their ideas from another source. I think these blogs also help us represent ourselves as as person and helps us convey our true voice inside instead of doing it in class. This class and this blog has been memorable for me and I think using a blog for class is one of the most wonderful ideas that I have heard in a long time.

Astrological Sign

My astrological sign is Taurus. According to my sign, my strengths are that I am dependable, persistent, loyal, patient, and generous. My sign also says that my weaknesses are that I am stubborn, lazy, possessive, materialistic, and self-indulging.

Independently, I don't travel into the unknown and lead the way which basically means I am not a leader. I am more of a follower and I strengthen and build upon the discovered, which means that I am the one that will "dot the I's and cross the T's". This trait is given from stubbornness and that is what gives me independence. I am perfectly fine with being alone, this way things get done the way the way I want them to get done.

In friendships, I am an excellent friend. I have a few close friends as apposed to many acquaintances. My close friends I treat as if they are my family and that i guard them and are very protective of them. I am very shy according to my sign and that I pamper myself and my friends.

My temperament is that I am deeply sensitive and the slightest comment or negative remark could be taken personally. My stubborn streak results into laziness. I can be lazy when I am told to do something or told to do something I don't want to do, but I am not lazy when it comes to myself.

Deep inside, I am not very fond of change. I don't like anything new because anything new scares a Taurus. I also like order and if I don't I get very anxious. I avoid talking about my emotions so people don't really know how i feel.

All of these paragraphs are a description of my zodiac sign. After reading it, it actually feels as if they are actually describing me and that the position of the stars determines your fate. This ties in with Romeo and Juliet because for some reason things always fall into place the way they were supposed to. Such as Mercutio's and Tybalt's death. Everyone knew it was going to happen. It was just whether or not they were going to act on it. Also when Romeo had the dream of him dieing, it might be foreshadowing of what is to come later in the book. Fate has a funny thing of showing up when it is most or least needed.

Romeo and Juliet: Culture Shock

In our modern culture today, we are infuenced by the tragedy of the famous "Romeo and Juliet" throughout our everyday lives. Through songs, books, and art. These artists were inspired by Shakespeare's perspective on love. There are many paintings, sculptures and drawings inspired by the famous Romeo and Juliet embrace or the balcony scene. People also base art on Romeo and Juliet is because it is the 'almost' perfect love story and how it sadly ended in death. Some people can sort of relate themselves to their story as well such as a man and women that the relationship their parents do not approve of. All in all, Shakespeare has left his mark on the art world and everyone will always recognize Romeo and Juliet.

Another Question

This week, i don't understand why Pip said: "Miss Havisham's intentions towards me, all a mere dream; Estella not designed for me;..."(324) when a couple chapters afterward he said: "Estella, dearest, dearest Estella, do not let Miss Havisham lead you into this fatal step...there may be one who loves you even as dearly, though who has not loved you for as long as I. Take him I can bear it better for you sake!" (363).
Why is he still willing to love Estella and go after even though she is obviously in love with someone else?

Passage

In previous chapters, Pip and Herbert were talking about looking about you. I am wondering what this actually means when Herbert says, "But you can't marry, you know, while you're looking about you."(253). What I'm confused about is the fact that they keep bringing the "looking about you" throughout the book and it is hard to tell what they mean from context.

This image represents how Pip's life is a winding road, but when Mr. Jaggers comes to tell Pip that he is finally going to be a gentleman, Pip's life has made one curve in a completely different direction. As the plot continues to move forward, his path becomes more winding and he leaves his apprenticeship behind.

Great Expectations: The 1st stage

I think Pip is referring to the days you live and the "iron or gold, of thorns or flowers..." represents the quality of the days and the formations of those days put together forming a "chain of events" so to speak. This day has altered him because he feels he can trust Joe in a whole new way and that Joe will love him no matter what he says even though he might get upset over the fact that Pip lies and gets him overexcited, he is still not mad at him. This day has altered him by changing his views of Joe and many other people who seem to believe him so well. His experience at Miss Havisham's was a once in a life time event for him. It's not everyday you get asked to play with someone. He seemed to have had one of those days that you feel you have refreshed yourself and can suddenly start over.

On one fourth of july night, my mother and i were sitting in this lawn chair in our front yard. My father and a few of his friends were lighting fireworks in the street because we lived on a culdasack kind of street. One of the fireworks wasn't working. It tipped over and was pointing right at the chair my mother and I were sitting in. She quickly picked me up right before it shot underneath the chair. Once my mother and I got inside, I started crying. From now on I hate fireworks and i cannot stand them and i always have to cover my ears. I think this has altered my life by making me more aware to my surroundings when things seem dangerous

Group Essay

I'm writing about dishonesty's significance to the play and the title. The three points I am making are the significance to the play, significance of small lies, and the significance of big lies. For the first point, my concrete detail is "....the vital Importance of Being Earnest." said by Jack on pg. 90. For the second point, my concrete detail is "...the same list of eligible men as Duchess of Bolton." said by Lady Bracknell on pg. 23. For the third point, my concrete detail is "My poor brother Earnest is carried off suddenly in Paris..." said by Jack on pg. 29. My commentary supports thesis by answering the main points of the prompt and supports the previous 5 part paragraphs. For each commentary, I describe why the concrete details show significance to the play.

Point 1 commentary: When Jack realizes all of his lying is resolved into a simple moral. It creates a moralistic tone to the play.

Point 2 commentary: Lady Bracknell's lying creates her character and tell the reader that she is very moralistic. A character's dishonesty in the play has a significance to the play because it helps develop their character.

Point 3 commentary: Jack's lying creates the whole plot of the play. This has a significance to the play because it creates even more of a moralistic tone about being someone you are not.
